How Do You Pack & Send Fragile Items By Courier?
There may be occasions when your business needs to ship fragile items such as glass or mirrors.
Items such as these are obviously extremely fragile and at risk of damage even when handled with extreme care. Failing to package a fragile item correctly before it’s shipped out for delivery is asking for trouble, and the risk of it being broken increases a great deal, this will result in unhappy customers If you follow the steps below on how to package a fragile item before sending it out for delivery with a courier service your goods should arrive safely and in the condition they left your premises.
Packaging a Fragile Item.
Ensuring you have the correct packaging materials is the most important thing. These include bubble wrap, the correct size box or carton, a strong tape to seal the package securely
Whatever you do, do not use just any old cardboard box you have lying around. You should never compromise with the quality of the box you’re going to use to pack a fragile item. Using a brand new, solid box is always the best option, as it will have a sturdy form and will be able to absorb any knocks or bangs.
The Importance Of The Packing Process
The most important part is packing the fragile item correctly.
1. Firstly, wrap your fragile item in multiple layers of packing paper, or even newspaper. This will help create absorbing layers which will take the shocks from bangs.
2. Bubble wrap. Cut your sheets of bubble wrap into square pieces, at least twice the size of the item you’re going to wrap. Wrap your fragile item so that you cannot see the actual shape of the object, this indicates that it’s been packaged correctly.
3. Before you put the item in a box, ensure you’ve got plenty of polystyrene pieces or air-filled packing cushions. You need to cover the base of the box completely with these as these will work as a cushioned layer that will protect your goods from any impact during the shipping process. Next, fill the remaining spaces in the box with the protective packaging tightly around the item so that it cannot move.
SEALING THE BOX
Close your box tightly and use several layers of packaging tape to seal the opening tightly. You can then tape it across the box for extra peace of mind. Do this on the top and the bottom. You can never use too much, as you want to be double, even triple sure the box won’t accidentally come open during transit. Finally, carefully attach your shipping label. Make sure this is stuck down properly as if it comes off you’re likely to lose your fragile parcel completely.
